In the 90's a large number of Japanese Home market models were imported into the UK. These Motorcycles never officially brought to the UK by the manufacturers and are known as "Grey" imports. Japanese licensing laws make the ownership of motorcycles of more than 399cc expensive and 400's make up the largest segment of the market. Tokyo and Osaka both had weekly Motorcycle auction where thousand of used bikes were sold for export. As a rule annual mileages were lower and condition much better than UK home market bikes. |

Most Japanese market bikes are restricted to 180kph (112mph). These means the KPH Speedo must be retained unless a derestrictor is wired into the CDI box. Carburetor Gummed with dried Petrol and corrosion inside Petrol Tanks from years sitting idle can be a problem. In recent Years the Japanese economy has not performed well and a declining new motorcycles market and a growing interest in used Vehicles has contributed to a decline of exports of "Greys" to the UK. Spares and Information on some models can be difficult to come by. |
