MCI backs powered two wheelers for low carbon future
Talks to include motorcycling within plans for a low carbon future moved forwards in September, when Craig Carey-Clinch, supported by Dave Luscombe, represented the MCI at a meeting with staff from the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) in London.
The LowCVP
The LowCVP helps the Government deliver its low carbon transport strategy and advises on policy and this is the first time the organisation has met with the MCI to consider the part motorcycling could play in helping the UK to switch towards lower carbon vehicles and fuel.
Two wheels good
The MCI lobby set out the advantages of all powered two-wheelers, explaining how they help reduce congestion for all road users. He highlighted how the motorcycle industry is producing small motorcycles and scooters which will do up to 160 mpg and how the electric market has an increasing choice of electric motorcycles and scooters, which can help considerably with urban congestion.
Craig explained:
"Electric motorcycles and scooter are a far more accessible than electric cars. They are generally cheaper to buy, take up less space to park, and can be charged using an ordinary plug.
“The MCI has been working hard to make sure small petrol and electric motorcycles are recognised by those bodies responsible for affecting policy and I felt we moved a little further forwards achieving that goal this week”.
