How old would your child be before you let them ride a powered motorcycle?
One year according to Ducati, who is offering a range of electric powered motorcycles to get the young ones in tune with riding. Hopefully encouraging them to become riders and enthusiasts when they are older.
There are four models. For the very young, two three-wheeler options are available, decked out in red and white with the 04 Andrea Dovizioso number:
Ducati Mini 6V
For a one-year-old, a
Ducati Mini 6V. A 25W motor power with a 6V/5Ah battery and a single speed will propel the young un along at 1.6mph.
Ducati Desmosedici Rider 6V
The
Ducati Desmosedici Rider 6V is the next three-wheeler, suitable for two years and up. It has a 50W motor, the same battery pack and single speed as the mini but with speed increased to 2.4mph. Yours, or your kid's, for £149.00.
Hypermotard 12V
Or how about a
Hypermotard replica for your three-year-old? This one has two wheels but does come with removable stabilisers. It's equipped with two wheel drive and has a more powerful 165W motor and a 12V/8Ah sealed battery.
Unlike the little three wheelers, which have pedal accelerators, the Hypermotard has a twisting throttle, a drum brake, two speeds, and a top speed of 4.7mph. The second 'gear' control button is hidden under the fuel cap, and it's intended that only adults decide whether to use this setting. As well as higher-specification, the price on this one reaches £349.00.
Desmosedici GP 12V
Then for the potential racer in your household, how about a
Desmosedici GP Dovizioso replica? It comes with the same specification as the Hypermotard, but is decalled with official sponsor stickers and has a stand. Also suitable for three years and up.
It's probably safe to say that the majority of road riders and competitive riders have parents who encouraged or, at least did not discourage them, taking to two wheels. So mums, dads, grandparents, older brother and sister, favourite aunts and uncles, cousins etc - take a look at these mini options and dip into the savings jar.
